Head lice

Head Lice Home Remedies

The first thing to do if you have not yet done so is to confirm that you or your child has head lice. The bugs are very difficult to see because they are so small. You need to get in to some really good light, with a magnifier glass. Day light is the best. Part the hair into sections and search close to the bade of the scalp.

Most of the lice and nits will be found at the base of the hair follicle, close to the scalp. Once you have confirmed that there is a lice infestation, you will want to check the rest of your family. All combs and hair brushes, towels and bed sheets, pillow cases will need to be washed in very hot water several time.

These bugs are remarkably resilient and can endure quite a harsh beating. So the key is to be consistent thorough and relentless with your treatment.

Symptoms of head lice
The symptoms of head lice infection is clear and they are but not limited to constant itching, red bumps on the scalp and upper neck, actually seeing the critters crawling on the scalp, seeing tiny white oval shape specks on the hair follicles, these are the nits or the louse eggs.

Avoid Chemicals and Pesticides
It is important to note that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends Nix to treat head lice infestations on children but these treatment has some strong chemical and your child could have an allergic reaction to it. My point is spot test anything you are going to use first on your child’s wrist or something, you do not want you child or your hair falling out s a result of treating lice.

Natural Head Lice Treatments
If you do not want to use any chemical on your head lice then you could try a lice comb and/or tweezers, but his is a very laborious process and will take a long time. You will have to do this everyday for t least 3 weeks until you can find no nits or eggs or lice.

Tea Tree Oil and other essential oils are a good non chemical head lice treatment option. Again you have to use it overnight, cover the head with a shower cap and repeat this for each person of the family for 2-3 weeks or until they are all dead.

Another option can also be Ulesfia (Benzyl Alcohol Lotion 5%) as a non-pesticide prescription treatment for the head lice infestation. It is applied to the hair until the entire hair is saturated with it, you will leave this in for 10-15 minutes and then wash off completely, do this every 3 days for two weeks so you can catch all the eggs that might have attached after the first treatment. Again it will only kill the adults so you have to wait until the eggs or nits turn to adults.

Getting Rid Of Headlice can be a challenge but you must be consistent in your attack.
