Getting Rid of Head Lice
Getting Rid of Head Lice and head lice treatment
Head Lice are very tiny barely visible with the naked eye, parasitic insects which are most commonly found living on the scalp and neck of humans.
Head Lice is most common in young children. Head lice, lice, (the plural of louse) is not necessarily an indication of bad hygiene but is spread from direct head to head contact.
The female head lice eggs called nits are fixed to the root of the hear shaft close to the scalp, and these eggs are extremely resilient and will not be destroyed with only one single application, you have do several application to treat the lice once they are hatched.
Once the nit hatches they start to feed on the small blood vessels on the scalp yep they are ravenous blood suckers.
Although they may sound really gross (I think they are) they have lived with humans side by side or head to head for as long as history. Lice aren’t dangerous in and of themselves and they usually do not spread disease, but they are annoying little critters and irritating to say the least.
Their bites causes a child’s scalp to become irritated, inflamed and constant scratching can lead to skin irritation and infections. So its not something we can ignore.
Headlice can be one of the most irritating and difficult thing to get rid of, and what’s more they spread like wild fire and easily transmitted from person to person, head to head.
Head lice eggs and latch on to hair follicles and are barely visibly with the naked eyes, and washing the hair with regular shampoo will not even create a dent in the headlice population all you will be doing is giving them a bath.
Kids are notorious for spreading head lice from child to child and when your child brings it home they can spread to the entire family.
Symptoms of head lice
Head lice eggs can lodge themselves to combs, bath towels, sheets cloths caps and hats and basically anything that comes in contact with the head.
Even though they are very difficult to see with the naked eye, a good and closer examination with the help of a magnifying glass can help to determine if your child has lice.
If your child is constantly itching or complaining of irritated scalp of sensitive and tender scalp or a tickling feeling like something is crawling o there scalp then a closer look might be in order.
The adult lice is about the size of a half of a flak seed and is grayish brown or tan in color the nymph or young lice is even smaller and is lighter in color and takes about 1-2 weeks to mature to a full adult.
The female lice is ready to reproduce from nymph to adult in 1-2 week and if thats the case you can see why they spread so quickly.
Treatment for head lice
getting rid of head lice is not an easy task and once they have taken hold it can take a while to completely rid yourself or them.
So whatever treatment you use it will need to be done consistently and over a period of a few weeks. So stick with it. The last thing you want is head lice infestation.
You need to soak all head wear and items in rubbing alcohol and wash all sheets and bath towels in very hot water and continue to check other family members for any signs for symptoms of head lice.
